Parent Counseling

Parenthood requires use to make big transitions in our personal, family, and sometimes professional lives. In both individual, and couples/co-parenting settings, Parent Counseling is a supportive space to explore challenges and concerns that come with the role, and to build confidence in your ability to meet those challenges. Parent Counseling can provide support in the following areas…

Adjustment

No matter where we are starting off, becoming a new parent is a huge adjustment. Parent counseling brings awareness and intention to these adjustments in a way that maximizes joy and fulfillment, and minimizes anxiety and hardship when adjusting to this new phase of life.

Parental Balance

Parenthood brings a lot of new responsibilities, and it can be hard to find a healthy balance between coparents. In parent counseling we build healthy boundaries, and direct communication skills to make sure we can advocate for ourselves, while also supporting or family, and achieve a new, balanced status quo between coparents.

New Parent Depression and Anxiety

Whether it is the anxiety of baby’s first cough, uncertainty about how to approach this new role, or post partum depression, parenthood often naturally brings a degree of anxiety and depression. Parent counseling provides tools to understand and respond to these emotional challenges with intention and compassion.

Restoring Intimacy

It is very common for new parents to experience dramatic changes in the role that physical and emotional intimacy plays in their daily lives. In parent counseling we bring new understanding, and health communication to intimacy between parents as they also adjust to the demands of a new arrival.

Intergenerational Trauma

More and more we are coming to understand that trauma is both meaningful, and prevalent. As parents, we can struggle with past challenges influence the present in uncomfortable ways. Parent counseling provides a safe, trauma informed space to understand if and how our own past trauma may be influencing our roles as parents, and will help you build tools to respond to you own needs in a nurturing, and compassionate way, that will make you a more effective, and healthy parent.

Career Concerns

For many becoming a parent involves some degree of adjustment to our careers. In parent counseling we can focus on the how our career goals develop in response to parenthood, and to balance family life and work life in a healthy way.
